Delete your Hoams account

This page explains how to delete your Hoams account, what is removed, what is kept, and how long it takes. It applies to the Hoams app on iOS and Android and to the Hoams website. You do not need the app installed to make the request.

1

Deleting your account in the app

  1. Open Hoams and sign in.
  2. Go to Profile → Account & security.
  3. Choose Delete account and confirm.
2

Requesting deletion without the app

If you no longer have the app installed, or cannot sign in, email privacy@myhoams.co from the address on the account, with Delete my account as the subject. We may ask you to verify that the address is yours before we act on it. We respond within 30 days, and sooner where the law requires.

3

When it takes effect

Deletion is scheduled rather than immediate. Your account is marked for deletion and the app shows you the exact date, which is 30 days after you ask. The delay exists so that an account cannot be lost to a mistaken tap or somebody else reaching your unlocked phone.

During those 30 days you can keep the account — either with Keep my account on the banner shown at the top of Account & security, or simply by signing in again, which cancels the request. After the 30 days the deletion runs automatically and cannot be reversed.

4

What is permanently deleted

  • Your sign-in credentials — you will no longer be able to sign in
  • Your name, profile photo, email address and phone number
  • Your profile and any details saved on it
  • Your membership of every community, including the unit or address it was tied to
  • Your notifications and notification preferences
  • Your RSVPs to community events
  • Any addresses saved to your account
  • Your question history with the document assistant
  • Your read receipts in conversations

Once this has run, nobody — including us — can sign in as you or recover the account. You are welcome to create a new Hoams account with the same email address afterwards; it will be a new account with no connection to the old one, and you would rejoin your community from scratch.

5

What is kept, with your identity removed

  • Posts and comments you wrote in your community
  • Messages you sent
  • Events you created
  • Maintenance issues you reported
  • Reports you sent to your board

These sit inside conversations that other residents took part in. Deleting one side of a thread leaves your neighbors reading replies to things that are no longer there, so instead of removing the content we remove you from it: the author is shown as “Former resident” with no name, photo, email address, phone number or any other personal information attached, and nothing links it back to you.

If you want particular content removed as well as your account, delete it in the app before you delete the account — you can remove your own posts, comments and messages at any time — or tell us which items in your email and we will remove them for you.

6

If you are the only board member

Being the last remaining board member of a community does not stop you deleting your account, but it does leave that community with nobody able to approve new residents or moderate content. The app warns you before you confirm. If this applies to you, appoint another board member first, or contact us and we will help the association recover access.

7

What deleting your account does not do

Your community and its records belong to the homeowners’ association, not to your account, so deleting yours does not delete the community, its governing documents, or its history. If your association wants its own data removed, a board member should contact us.
